How can I help my student do well?
First, look at the images above. This is what you and your student think this course is about. Right? Yeah, we all know that is what you are thinking.
Now check the information picture to the left. This is what they will REALLY be doing in this class. They will read information, then bring it to class where I will help them build bridges to create knowledge. That being said, they need to read to be successful. Period. No getting around it.
Here is what you can do to help them do well:
1. Provide a quiet workplace away from distractions (give them a snack, steal the tv remote, turn off the wifi, and put the dog away.
2. Give them time to read! Choose a time, and make that AP World time. Do not interrupt this time, unless the home is on fire. If that happens, make sure they save the textbook.
3. Get in touch with their friends' parents who are also in the class and arrange study groups at the various houses. They should be working together on things! Encourage them to do this by forcing them to work together. Ideally, they have already done this for APHuG!
4. Go to the college board and read what they have posted there! Here is a great start: AP World two page course guide
